A network engineer in the Core Networking Services (CNS) team needs to build a general knowledge about a wide variety of network technologies and protocols. Training and coaching will be foreseen to achieve this.

Your tasks will vary from day to day, including operations on different network environments and equipments, as well as studies and project driven implementations of new technologies.

Furthermore, a standby service is assured 24/7 in a weekly round robin fashion, giving right to an attractive remuneration supplement.

Next to general knowledge, each team member has the liberty to develop expertise in a specific area of interest.

Team work is key, as knowledge needs to be shared, and a good and informal work atmosphere is essential!




  • You have a higher education or university degree in ICT, Telecommunications or Computer Sciences.
  • You have affinity with IP data networking in many of its aspects.
  • Certifications in the field of ICT and networking are a plus (Cisco, Checkpoint, Juniper…).
  • Good knowledge of ITIL or a certification in this field is a plus.

Technical skills

You have strong working knowledge in several of the following domains, and are willing to develop basic skills in the others:

IP Networks: 

  • LAN & WAN ARCHITECTURE and administration on routers and switches like Cisco, Hp, …
  • L2 Switching basics (ethernet, VLAN, trunking, xSTP, …)
  • Dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS, NAT…)
  • DNS, DHCP, IPAM, NTP services
  • Web services & proxy-ing
  • Wireless networks
  • IP load balancing, GSLB (e.g. F5, Netscaler)
  • Voice over IP

Network Security:

  • IP Firewalling (e.g. Checkpoint, Cisco ASA, xBSD packetfilter, …)
  • Security topologies, and patch management (SSL VPN, p2p VPN, Algosec, Secunia, Qualys, …)
  • Network authentication (Radius, LDAP, NIM, …)
  • IPS systems, WAF (NGFW, Checkpoint, Cisco Firepower, F5, …)

Network virtualization:

  • SDN, NFV
  • VmWare NSX

Network Tools & Automation

  • Good knowledge of LINUX systems in general (CentOS Linux, xBSD, …)
  • Network management tools (e.g. Icinga, PRTG, MRTG, Netflow, CMDB, …)
  • Scripting languages (bash, perl,…)
